Your Emotions Deserve Support

There’s nothing “wrong” with your feelings. They are messengers. Essential oils help you receive the message, feel the feeling, and then let it move through you. You deserve tools that meet you with compassion, not control. Essential oils aren’t meant to shut emotions down—they’re here to help them find a safe rhythm. Just like your horse helps you return to balance without judgment.   Your Gentle Homework Try This: Choose an essential oil today based solely on how it makes you feel. Don’t look up what it’s “supposed” to do. Just smell. Breathe. Notice. Then journal how it supported you. Journal Prompt: “What emotion feels stuck or heavy right now? What might I need in order to let it move?” “What oil am I drawn to most today—and what do I think it’s offering me?” Bonus Practice: If you’re visiting a horse today, use a calming oil (diluted) on your […]

Choosing Essential Oils Intuitively

Here’s one of my favorite things to teach: Your nose knows. And your horse does too. You may already sense that certain essential oils seem to “call you.” You reach for lavender on anxious days. You crave citrus in the morning. You’re drawn to something earthy before a big conversation. That’s your intuition speaking. That’s your nervous system asking for support. Try this: Take 3–5 bottles of essential oil. Don’t look at the labels yet. One at a time, open the cap and take a slow, mindful inhale. Ask yourself: How do I feel with this scent? Do I want more of it—or do I want to put it away? Does it make me feel grounded, uplifted, peaceful, emotional? There’s no wrong answer here. None. Sometimes your body wants something that soothes. Sometimes it wants something that stirs. And sometimes it says “not right now”—just like a horse does when

How Essential Oils Support Our Emotions

By now, you’ve dipped your toes into what essential oils are, how they connect with the emotional centers of your brain, and why the way they’re grown matters. You’ve probably started to notice that even smelling an oil can stir something inside you—maybe a memory, a mood, or a deep breath you didn’t even know you were holding. Today, we go a little deeper. Today, we explore how essential oils help shift emotional energy. Because emotions are not stuck things. They are waves meant to move. They’re like the rhythm of hooves on dirt, or the rise and fall of a horse’s chest. Oils don’t suppress emotions—they support them as they flow, offering safety and space for transformation.   How Essential Oils Support Our Emotions Let’s keep it real: emotions can be messy. Sometimes we wake up heavy with sadness, without a reason. Other days, we’re anxious, stuck in our

You Deserve the Real Thing

You don’t have to be an expert. You don’t have to have all the right brands or the biggest collection. But you do deserve authentic, trustworthy support—especially when it comes to your emotions. So ask questions. Read labels. Choose essential oils that have been nurtured, not manipulated. The same way you choose trainers, barns, and communities that see your worth. And when in doubt? Trust your horse. If they lean in and sigh? That oil’s likely a keeper.   Your Gentle Homework Try This: Choose one essential oil you have on hand and research where it came from. Was it steam distilled? Does the company provide info about soil, harvest, or testing? Journal Prompt: “What kind of care and integrity do I want to surround myself with? How does that show up in the oils I choose—and the people I allow close?” Bonus Challenge: Create a tiny ritual where you

Why Ethical Essential Oils Matter (Especially for Emotional Support)

Here’s something not everyone knows: your nervous system knows the difference. You can slather on a mass-market “lavender” oil and feel nothing. Or worse, get a headache. Why? Because that oil might have: Been distilled too fast with high heat (burning off some important compounds) Been cut with cheap carrier oils or synthetic fragrance Come from plants grown with chemicals or poor water quality Sat in plastic or heat too long, breaking down its effectiveness Your body knows. Your horse knows. And your emotions definitely know. On the other hand, a clean, ethically-produced essential oil interacts with your body gently, predictably, and meaningfully. It creates space for you to exhale… to soften… to heal. If we’re using oils for emotional well-being, we want the real thing—not a shortcut.   Caring for Oils Like You’d Care for a Horse Here’s a metaphor I love: treat choosing your essential oils like you’d

What Is “Seed to Seal”?

Now that you’ve gotten a feel for how essential oils interact with your emotions and why horses are so quick to notice scent… it’s time to talk about quality. And I don’t mean this in a salesy or technical way. I mean the kind of quality that holds space for emotional transformation. The kind that whispers, you’re safe here. The kind that your body—and your horse—can trust. Because here’s the thing: just like horses can sense when you’re holding back or rushing the moment, they also sense the integrity of what’s in that little bottle you bring to the pasture. So today, we’re going to talk about where good oils come from, how to spot quality, and why how something is grown and treated matters just as much as the plant itself.   What Is “Seed to Seal,” Anyway? You may have heard the phrase “seed to seal” used to

You Don’t Need to Know Everything

You don’t need to memorize every compound or Latin name. The best way to understand essential oils is to experience them. Let yourself explore with curiosity. Smell different oils. Notice your emotional reaction, your energy level, your body’s tension or ease. Ask: “Do I feel more calm or more awake?” “Where do I feel this in my body?” “What emotion is bubbling up?” This course isn’t about mastering science. It’s about tuning in. And there’s no better teacher for that than a horse.   Your Horse, Your Mirror The next time you’re with a horse, try introducing an essential oil by simply opening the bottle near them. Don’t wave it under their nose—just let them notice it. Watch what they do. Do they lean in? Turn away? Flick their ears or sigh? They’ll tell you what they like, what they need, and what feels off. You can do the same

Why Scent Affects Our Emotions

Here’s where things get really interesting. When you inhale an essential oil, tiny aromatic molecules travel through your nose and directly into your limbic system—the part of your brain that handles emotion, memory, behavior, and even trauma. Unlike other senses that get filtered and interpreted, scent bypasses the rational brain entirely. It goes straight to the emotional control center. That’s why just a whiff of a certain oil (or even freshly cut hay or your horse’s mane) can transport you instantly to a memory, a feeling, or a calmer state of mind. Your body doesn’t need to think about how it feels. It just feels. That’s also why horses respond so powerfully to scent—they don’t rationalize or analyze. They sense, respond, and reflect. It’s pure, embodied awareness. This is one of the many reasons essential oils and equine-assisted experiences are such a perfect match. They both speak the language of

What Exactly Are Essential Oils?

Now that you’ve found your footing and settled into the herd, it’s time to dig into the heart of this journey: essential oils—what they are, how they work, and why horses often respond to them before we’re even fully aware of their effects. Spoiler alert: There’s a little bit of science here, but don’t worry—we’re keeping it simple, sensory, and rooted in experience. You don’t need a degree to understand this. All you need is your nose, your body, and your willingness to be present. Let’s start with the basics. Essential oils are the concentrated essence of plants—the aromatic compounds found in leaves, flowers, bark, resin, roots, or peels. They’re like the life force of the plant, kind of like blood in the body or breath in the lungs. These oils aren’t oily like cooking oil. They’re light, volatile (meaning they evaporate quickly), and incredibly powerful. A single drop of

Horses Know

An Invitation to Connect Emotionally Horses don’t speak in words, but they speak volumes with their energy. They notice things we hide. They pick up on our tension, our joy, our fear, our calm. They don’t judge or try to fix—they mirror and invite. They say, “This is what I see. This is how I feel it. Want to be present with me?” That’s why connecting emotionally with horse energy can be so healing. To help you step into that space, here’s a simple practice you can do with a real horse (if you have access), or just in your mind’s eye:   Practice: Meet Me in the Field Find a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted. Close your eyes and picture a wide open pasture. You see a horse standing in the distance. Maybe it’s a horse you know, or maybe one that’s new to you. As you

Setting the Tone

Why We Begin with Intention Before we dive into essential oils and horse energy, I invite you to pause and take a deep breath. Let your shoulders relax. Unclench your jaw. Let your breath come in just a little slower than usual. Now, ask yourself this simple question: “What do I need right now?” Is it rest? Clarity? A moment of joy? Grounding? Comfort? Maybe it’s something you can’t even put into words yet—and that’s okay. Naming it isn’t necessary to begin receiving it. Setting an intention at the beginning of this course isn’t about striving or setting goals. It’s more like placing a gentle signpost in the ground and whispering, “This way, please.” Your intention can be a feeling you’re craving, a shift you hope for, or simply a desire to connect more deeply with yourself. You can journal it, speak it aloud, or tuck it quietly in your
